SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A tech founder based in San Francisco is receiving backlash online after creating a multiplayer zombie shooter game based in the Tenderloin neighborhood called "Night Shift." Pierre-Louis Biojout posted a trailer and link to the game on his account on X.
The trailer for the first-person shooter-style game shows zombies walking around, hunched over, and riding lime scooters near the intersection of Jones and Eddy. What appears to be Waymos, Tesla Cybertrucks and AI billboards can also be seen as a player shoots and throws grenades.
Louis Biojout posted the trailer with the caption "San Francisco couldn't fix the Tenderloin. So I monetized it Call of Duty-style zombie shooter on the real SF streets. Multiplayer, in your browser."
Part of the online backlash accuses the game of using zombies to represent unhoused and drug addicts in an area plagued with open-air drug use.
One of the zombies in the game trailer is called "the folded." The characteristics of the zombie are similar to the fentanyl fold, which is a symptom of fentanyl use, where a person is bent forward at the waist while still standing in a rigid position.

One X account against the game posted, "Are you tone deaf? a zombie game based on an inactive prison (referring to the Alcatraz map featured in the game Call of Duty: Black Ops 4) is different than you monetizing shooting unhoused drug addicts. you’re disgusting and really out of touch with reality." Another said "be better."
Not all the comments were negative. One supporter on X posted "Best game I play so far this year." Another said, "Release it on Steam for $5 and I’m in."

In his X post about the game, Pierre-Louis Biojout went on to say that he's never built a game before this one. He says he created "Tenderloin: Night Shift" in the span of a weekend. On Tuesday, he said the game has already seen at least $300 in ad sales.
