PLAIN TWP., Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – If Issue 5 on the Stark County ballot looks familiar, it should.

The Plain Local School District is again trying to pass the 3.5 mill bond issue for 37 years to build new elementary and middle school buildings in the district.

It failed back in May.

Superintendent Brent May says the Ohio School Facilities Commission is offering the district $84-million later, if the district raises the initial funding to build three new elementary schools, replacing seven current buildings.

If the levy fails again, the district has just one more chance to pass the current version of the levy with state funding.

They say passage would cost the owner of $100,000 in property valuation $122 a year.

May says some of the buildings cost more to maintain than constructing a new school.

Early Voting is underway Monday through Friday from 8 to 5 at your Board of Elections office.
